Custom Polyurethane Machined Parts & OEM Components

Standard cast polyurethane sheets and rods are the starting point — but many industrial applications require custom-shaped components that must be machined, molded, or fabricated to precise dimensions. Jiasheng Plastic offers full custom fabrication capabilities for polyurethane parts, from simple cut-to-size sheets to complex molded components with metal inserts.

Machining Polyurethane

Cast polyurethane can be machined on standard CNC lathes and mills, though it requires different parameters than metal or rigid plastics:

• Cutting tools: Sharp, high-speed steel or carbide tools with positive rake angles
• Cutting speed: Lower than for rigid plastics; heat buildup causes gumming
• Coolant: Water-based coolant recommended to prevent heat buildup
• Tolerances: ±0.1mm achievable for most dimensions; tighter tolerances require post-machining conditioning

Molded Components with Metal Inserts

For components requiring threaded fasteners or metal reinforcement, metal inserts can be incorporated during the casting process. The insert is placed in the mold before pouring, and the liquid PU bonds to the metal surface (with appropriate primer). This produces a composite component with the wear resistance of PU and the structural strength of steel.
